A good friend of mine invited me to break a bread at their beautiful house. Fried fish was served. When I was ready to eat, his mom reminded us to be careful of the tiny and dangerous fish bones. Well ,that didn't stop me from eating the fish even though it was risky to swallow a fish bone, it can pierce you in the throat. The food was nutritious and tested really good.
Then it came to me that, this is how God told us to live our lives. To be cautious of what we see and hear. Just as chewing very well before swallowing helps us to sort the flesh and the fish bone, we also need to test the teachings, prophesies, songs and life styles of ministers according to the Bible. We need to grow to the position of taking only the good side of our spiritual leaders.
Expecting the church to be completely free from wrong teachings and flawed personalities is like expecting a cow to give birth to a foal (baby donkey), which is IMPOSSIBLE!. Wrong kind of expectation from people has a potential to hurt. Jesus himself warned us to be awake on this, specially us who are at the end times.
I was thinking about two kinds of wrong teachings. The first one comes due to lack of knowledge and the second one is a purposely devised wrong teaching. Both teachings are wrong but the difference is on intentions. Well, whether we like it or not, wrong is wrong and right is right. Our standard is the Word of God not people's personal intentions.
So, should we stop eating fish for the fear of the tiny and dangerous fish bones? No, but we have to eat carefully. I mean, should we not listen to prophets, teachers or singers? No, but we should know that they are not absolute and may make mistakes becase of lack of knowledge or ill intention.
Therefore we need to be diligent to test them according to the word of God. For the Word of God is our life's compass. We should love and respect our spiritual leaders. But Also,We should know that there is no perfect preacher, singer, prophet or anyone whom we see on the stage but there is a perfect counselor that is the Holy spirit. Therefore, let's experience to learn more from the Spirit of God directly and personally. It's like eating a fish fillet, no bones, no wastage. All nutritious!
Let's fix our eye's on Jesus, the author and the perfecter of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrew 12:2
